A new year! And with it, new music! Now, don’t get too excited, it’s not a new album or anything so ambitious, just a collection of jams I’ve been making and doing every day for this crazy little thing called Jamuary. The basic idea is just to make something quick every day for the month. Some people use prompts, other just do whatever they are in the mood for. As detailed in the launch post, I solicited a bunch of prompts from my music friends online (list is here). So far I’ve managed to get one done every night! Even made little videos for them (mostly just screen recordings of Ableton or whatever, but still!). Hey, you can find the full playlist, updated nightly, on my YouTube channel. Or, right here, below!
It’s been mostly great, generally fun and pleasantly eye-opening. There’s something about the constraints of working to a prompt and under a strict, tight deadline that really gets the creative juice flowing. I’ve discovered a couple new techniques and tricks and things to try in a more structured environment. Fun stuff! Might try to turn a few of these into finished pieces of music at some point, as well. A couple of them have some real promise.
There’s not much else to report on, really. Other People’s Music continues to come out every week and I continue to need more acts to cover (seriously, submit your music!). I bought some gear, but it isn’t here yet so not much to say about it at the moment. Oh, I did release a new installment of the How to Synth feature! This one is a deep dive into the world of filters. Coming next is FM Basics II, which should be out…soon. Let’s say before the next status update. I hope.
That’s all for January (Jamuary)! See ya next month!
