Here we are with another status report and the headline status is I moved. I’m currently in process of putting the full studio back together, which means a chance to reimagine setup and workflow. There are a lot of variables to solve for, so I haven’t quite got everything nailed down. Hell, I haven’t even gotten everything unpacked. Even so, I will have it up and running to some degree (or at least some parts of it) in a few days.

My plan is to have multiple smaller, self-contained stations, each focused on a subset of instruments, effects and recording gear. I recently sold off a bunch of excess gear (two synthesizers, two drum machines, a cassette deck, and a two effects units) and picked up very little new hardware (a Lexicon Vortex effects unit, a Roland JV-880 ROMpler and an Ableton Move) and the new, leaner studio is feeling good. Probably still a bit excessive, TBH… but hopefully the new layout will help more stuff get used. If not, I’ll sell off some more.

New music still in progress but moving has been eating my life. I have even had to pause some paid work to get it done.

I have made time for streaming, tho! Every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. PST (Pacific/Los Angeles time) I’m streaming. After a well-received stream on sampling for sound design couple weeks back, I did a pair on FM synthesis (first video and second video) and a look at the Arturia MiniFreak V. This week I will be looking at Pigments, currently on sale! (And a bargain at full price!). If you don’t want to miss it, you can subscribe to my YouTube channel and turn on notifications.
