Well well, here we are at the final status report of 2025. It’s been a year, hasn’t it? Here’s where I am as we close out the first quarter of the 21st century.
The studio build is like 70% finished. I am basically just waiting on a few cables I need to finish hooking everything up. I intend to do a full studio tour post and/or video at some point, so we’ll just leave it at that. Oh, and the photo headlining this post. That’s the main computer setup/DAW station. You can maybe just make out Pigments and Ableton Live on screen, and that’s a Push 2 controller. This is where I do all my streaming, soft synth programming, and DAW based work. Not the most glamorous part of the setup, but arguably the most important.
Speaking of streaming… some kind soul who loves the open web and fucking hates Google took the initiative to mirror my videos and streams from my YouTube channel to PeerTube. So if you want to check out my work and don’t want to deal with YouTube’s bullshit, you can watch anything/everything here at the Ether Diver PeerTube mirror (it sometimes takes a day or two after it goes live on YouTube to update).
As promised long ago, I have made my Hydrasynth available as a free (pay-what-you-want) download over at my Ko-Fi. It’s free for supporters (specifically those who have donated a buck or two over there to support my writing, streaming, and other work) but a) you can always pout $1-2 in the pay what you want field and then you are a supporter, and b) if you’re actually reading this, you are a supporter. Who reads these? Anyway, get the Hydra patches, and a sample pack full of sweeps, in my Ko-fi Shop. I’ll also be adding some Pigments patches very soon!
Speaking of Ko-Fi… I ran a lowkey fundraiser there all year to support my writing, streaming, community building and educational work. Actually, I ran two! The first, for $200 to cover my hosting costs, was a smashing success. It was funded in like five days, mostly by one person who liked what I am trying to do and wanted to do their part to make it happen (infinite thanks, generous benefactor who’s asked to remain anonymous!). The second was a bit more ambitious. It ran all year and the goal was $1500 — a seemingly large amount, but broken down to $30/ a week for 50 weeks of Other People’s Music coverage, it was the least I’d ever accept in a professional context to do similar work. I figured it was a reasonable and modest, if somewhat ambitious goal … and it bombed. Oof. I haven’t even got to 20% of the funding, as of the time of this writing…
I guess what I am saying is, if you want to keep seeing OPM, synth tutorials, streaming lessons, etc… consider either helping to spread the word (I do no advertising, so it’s all me and word of mouth) or donating a small amount yourself. Heck, if you want to ascend to the pantheon of sainthood, consider both. Some of you have already done both, and rest assured, I notice and deeply appreciate you!
